Loretta’s Hair Boutique is more than a salon—it’s a legacy of determination, family, and community. It all started with Loretta, a young girl in Columbia, SC, who turned her dreams into reality through hard work and resilience. From styling hair in a makeshift pine straw salon as a child to saving $75 doing laundry to enroll in beauty school, her dedication was unmatched.
After becoming the top stylist among 144 at a major company and traveling the world to refine her craft, Loretta’s dream of opening her own salon came true on September 28, 1987. That same day, her daughter Charlene graduated from cosmetology school and joined her, marking the start of a family business spanning generations.
For over 30 years, Loretta’s Hair Boutique has been a cornerstone of Columbia, providing exceptional hair care and creating opportunities for stylists in the community. Guided by Loretta’s vision, the salon remains a place of beauty, learning, and empowerment.

With 44 years of experience as a cosmetologist, Loretta is the heart and soul of Loretta’s Hair Boutique. From crafting her first “salon” out of pine straw as a child to becoming the #1 stylist in a major company, Loretta’s journey is a testament to perseverance and passion. Her dedication to her craft and community is unmatched, and her legacy lives on through the many stylists and clients she’s touched over the years.
Charlene Young
Charlene grew up inspired by her mother’s dedication and love for cosmetology. Joining Loretta’s Hair Boutique the day she graduated from cosmetology school, Charlene has been an integral part of the salon's success. Her blend of creativity and professionalism ensures that every client leaves feeling confident and beautiful. As a second-generation stylist, Charlene carries on the family tradition of excellence in every style she creates.
